Walking City Tour
EXPLORE THE DEEP CUTS OF THE LOCAL FOOD, ART
AND MEZCAL SCENE.
The order of the day is a street level walkabout through the historic heart of town. We’ll visit old friends at their food stalls, art galleries and mezcal bars as we tread along a local’s trail, connecting treasured taco stands to a punk rock woodblock print shop. We’ll wind through side streets to high end mezcalerias and dip into the back corners of the food markets teeming with glories few visitors see.

Street Food:
Along our half-day walking tour, you will eat homestyle tacos made with fresh masa hot off the comal, check out the eclectic natural bounty of neighborhood mercados and squeeze into a bustling little food stand for some flavor-popping ceviche and ice cold bottles of beer. The owner usually has a special bottle of mezcal stashed just for us.
-
Local Art:
Art and artists have famously represented a vital part of Oaxacan culture for centuries. In the woodblock printing scene, there is a new generation of socially active, wickedly smart, fiercely motivated young artists who are carrying the rebel artist traditions into the future with impeccable skill, style and honor. We will visit them at their taller, and see it all up close.
-
Traditional Mezcal:
Oaxaca puts you in the heart of the mezcal universe, and we will spend some time in a downtown mezcaleria which hosts a truly phenomenal collection of small batch, traditional mezcales. You will discover a precious cultural connection when you sip on a copita of mezcal amongst locals. This will happen for you on this day.
